
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Bookkeeper to join a growing SME engineering business based in Stockport. Following a recent acquisition, the company is entering a new phase of growth and is looking for a proactive, hands-on individual to take ownership of its finance function.
This is a unique role where you'll have the opportunity to build and shape processes from the ground up. With finance currently largely outsourced and shared across the team, the business is now seeking someone who can bring structure, take ownership, and support its continued growth (current turnover circa £3.5m).
You'll play a key role in managing day-to-day financial operations, while also taking responsibility for credit control and maintaining accurate financial records.
The Role:
Take ownership of day-to-day bookkeeping and financial administration
Manage purchase ledger and sales ledger activities
Process supplier invoices and prepare payments
Raise and issue sales invoices and allocate incoming receipts
Perform bank and credit card reconciliations
Monitor debtor balances and actively manage credit control
Chase overdue payments and resolve invoice queries
Prepare aged debtor reports and reconcile supplier statements
Assist with VAT returns and month-end processes
Support external accountants with reporting requirements
Assist with payroll administration where required
Implement and improve financial processes and controls
About You:
Proven experience in a Bookkeeper, Accounts Assistant, or similar role
Experience within an engineering, manufacturing, or similar sector (essential)
Strong working knowledge of purchase and sales ledger
Solid reconciliation and credit control experience
Experience using Xero (essential) or similar systems such as Sage
Good Excel skills and strong attention to detail
Confident communicator with customers and suppliers
Able to work independently and take ownership of a finance function
Proactive, organised, and comfortable in a role that is still evolving
Available to start immediately or at short notice
What's on Offer:
Salary between £32,000 - £35,000
