£56,000 - £63,000 dependant on experience

Based: Preston (hybrid working available)

St Catherine's Hospice is a large and highly regarded North West charity with an outstanding reputation. The charity is led by a dynamic board of executive and non-executive Directors and we are looking to recruit a Director of Finance & Business to enhance that team. This role will report directly to the CEO and has responsibility for delivering the charities financial and operational strategy.

Key areas of the role will be leading a small professional finance team daily, ensuring sustainability and growth of the charity and its subsidiaries whilst managing financial and operational risks. The core of this role will be finance but will also provide leadership to some wider business departments.

Role:

  • Oversight of several functions which include finance, IT, safety, health and the environment, facilities and housekeeping
  • Formulating strong management information and analysis and supporting commercial negotiations to influence decisions made by the SLT with minimal risk
  • Budget planning and monitoring of income and expenditure, working with management team on budgets
  • Overseeing year end processes to ensure no policies are breached and ensure timely delivery of accounts to the trustees
  • Providing specialist financial advice to aid decision making at leadership team level
  • Ensuring compliance with all aspects of managing public money and donations including management of charity commission, companies house and other legal/stat requirements
  • Develop, recommend and execute the charities financial plan supporting its business strategies and long term goals/mission
  • Building strong relationships with external stakeholders including trustees, commissioners, funders
  • Analysing and enhancing the business models for the charity and its trading company
  • Ensuring procurement processes are regularly reviewed to enable best value on purchasing, contracts and services
  • Establish controls to safeguard the charity's assets including management of investment properties
  • Lead the charities approach to risk management and ensure all departments have adequate risk controls in place

Experience:

  • CIMA/ACCA/ACA qualified
  • Leadership of a finance function as Financial Controller OR Finance Director including budgeting and accounting processes at a strategic level
  • Strong, well-developed commercial and business acumen
  • Knowledge of VAT, HRMC, payroll and statutory accounts requirements
  • Charity experience would be beneficial but not essential
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
