HR Assistant Responsibilities

HR Assistant have a number of responsibilities which they must complete on a daily basis:

  • Assisting with general employee processes such as hiring, recruiting, vetting candidates and assisting with interviews
  • Compiling and organising papers, digital employment records such as holidays and sick pay
  • Supporting HR related training programs and workshops
  • Writing and submitting reports on general HR daily activities 
  • Sitting in HR events and meetings, as well as coordinating management employee meetings 
  • Continually learning the latest and best HR practices to improve workplace efficiency

 

Working hours

A HR assistant will typically work a 35-40 hour week, Monday to Friday 9am-5pm.You will mainly be office based, however some larger companies may require you to travel to other branches.

The ideal HR assistant will have experience working within recruitment processes, including writing and posting job advertisements, conducting background checks on candidates and assisting within the recruitment interviews. 

Candidates should also have experience with general human resource computer programs, such as Microsoft Office. They must also have experience maintaining employee records and know how to process payroll.

 

 

HR Assistant Qualifications

Depending on the company, HR assistants may require at least a degree in:

  • Business Management
  • Psychology

 

Some companies may allow candidates to apply with a diploma, certificate or experience in a similar position. Employers may also consider candidates who have completed apprenticeships in relevant roles.
