Head of FP&A/ Head of Cost and Strategic Finance

A professional services business are recruiting for a Head of Cost and Strategic Finance. Reporting to the Director of FP&A and working alongside the Finance leadership team this role is responsible for the financial management of the costs of the business.

You will be heavily involved in reporting, planning and analysis for the Retail wide cost base. This includes the control of the strategic investment spend to deliver new products, programmes and initiatives The role will also provide challenge to the business on spend, tracking of performance within the year, while also providing management with key strategic information to support business decisions and setting long term financial targets. The role will be responsible for 5 x direct reports.

Overall responsibilities;

  • Oversee, coordinate, analyse and implement the cost inputs into the organisation's annual operating and capital budgets; prepare forecasts for short and long-term operating results; and analyses major budget variances for presentation to the CEO, CFO and Executive Committee.
  • Drive delivery of the cost targets, provide transparency on performance and minimise surprises
  • Business Partnering with Executive members and their direct reports to ensure ownership of cost budgets and delivery of targets
  • Monitor cost performance of the business and appraise CFO, FD and other Exec members on key risks and opportunities
  • Deliver Cost reporting and Initiative tracking throughout the year, so that Execs feel accountable for delivery of the plan
  • Manage investment spend, provide appropriate challenge, sign off business cases and provide meaningful reporting to Group and Exec. Ensure accurate quarterly cash forecasting.
  • Work with the Change team to deliver insight into business change success
  • Partner with the Controllership team to review processes across the group to reduce month end close timetable
  • Work with Procurement to identify & deliver cost savings
  • Develop external insight for Cost Benchmarking to help with Target setting.
  • Deliver product cost allocations to support product P&L
  • Develop a strong team through effective recruitment, training, coaching and mentoring and develop potential successors for all positions. Set the highest possible standard of behaviours, creating a team and a high-performance ethic. Ensure training is in alignment with FCA requirements.
  • An innovative leader challenging the norm to transform the Finance function into a best in class business partnering team
  • Assist the CEO, CFO, FD and Executive team with ad hoc ad-hoc projects to positively impact on the key priorities of the business
  • Working alongside key business stakeholders to report, forecast & control operating expenditure
  • Review current cost governance strucuture to ensure that decision making is timely and robust
