Role: Trainee Buyer

Job Type: Full-time, permanent
Salary: Up-to £20,000 (dependant on experience)
Hours: 37.75 hours per week: 8:45am-5pm(Mon-Thurs) & 8:45am-4:30pm (Friday)
We are currently recruiting for a Trainee/Junior Buyer to join one of our clients based in Stockport. This role will require the relevant individual to be responsible for procurement of steel needed to support customers' needs; whilst maintaining a high standard of professional knowledge, ethics and practices when dealing with suppliers, peers, supervisors, and other key stakeholders of the company.

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Ensure steel is purchased that meets the specifications and requirements of the company and the customer
- Provide accurate costing for purchased items
- Identify areas of opportunity (cost savings/inventory reduction)
- Produce forecasts and monitor stock levels for an allocated product range
- Place orders, progress and chase deliveries with suppliers, port agents and hauliers
- Ensure all required data is input accurately and promptly onto the stock database
- Maintain an excellent rapport with supplier base, whilst ensuring quality goods and services are received
- Monitor supplier quality and service and resolve associated issues
- Source specialist suppliers and negotiate prices within defined company guidelines as required
- Work closely with inter-company departments, i.e., sales, finance, and the warehouse, to achieve targets in QA and customer service
- Assist with implementing new procedures and processes to improve product supply and management of all purchasing tasks
- Provide goods inwards support and support to others on the Purchasing team
- Carry out general purchasing administration duties and participate in stock-takes
- Liaise with Purchasing Manager to resolve any complex queries/discrepancies, to achieve an effective, timely resolution.
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:
- Confident decision maker with sound judgment
- Solid written/verbal communication skills, demonstrating ability to communicate in a professional manner and build strong working relationships
- Ability to work under pressure, multi-task and alter focus when necessary
- Demonstrate good analytical skills, with attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
- Evidence of good organisational skills to ensure deadlines are met
- Collaborative in nature, yet self-motivated
- Computer literate, with Microsoft Office skills
- Numerate and good general level of education with pass rate of 5 GSCE's, to include Maths & English, and 2 A levels. (Desired)
