Logistics & Customs Controller

Burnley - Site based role

Leading Manufacturing & Wholesale business

Salary - up to £35k + Bonus & Benefits

My client are a leading Manufacturing & Wholesale organisation based in Burnley, Lancashire who are looking to secure an experienced Logistics & Customs specialist to join their existing team of 4.

Reporting to the Head of Supply Chain & Logistics you would be leading the pre-dispatch/ logistics of products on behalf of their UK and International clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • To assess, ensure and develop the best value, fit-for-purpose freight options.
  • To support and encourage the team to solve logistical complications in a proactive way - ensuring effective communication with customer service/ sales team and/ or other relevant stakeholders.
  • To develop and implement process improvements.
  • Act as the internal subject matter expert on all aspects of freight, logistics and customs practices.
  • To collaborate with other internal departments on wider efficiency and improvement projects affecting customer excellence, logistics, supply chain and product sourcing.

Candidate Specification

The successful candidate will be a subject matter expert within logistics, particularly on the Customs side.

  • Experience in exporting and importing within a manufacturing environment or from a freight forwarder background. (Role at present has more emphasis on exporting)
  • Knowledge of export, import, shipping and customs procedures.
  • Experienced in the management of carriers and freight forwarders.
  • Previous experience relating to supplier selection and negotiation.
  • Analytical skills, with high attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and keen to learn and grow in role-progression opportunities to ILM 3 Team Leader or progression within the wider Supply Chain/ procurement team is available for the right candidate.
