Finance Manager Responsibilities

  • Collate, prepare and interpret reports, budgets and accounts.
     
  • Predict financial trends and budget accordingly.
     
  • Report and communicate information to management and stakeholders.
     
  • Strategic analysis and planning.
     
  • Research competitors, pricing strategies and market trends and advise accordingly to ensure continued performance.
     
  • Business modelling and risk assessment.
     
  • Managing a team.
     
  • Managing overall business budgets including income, cash flow and expenditure.
     
  • Work with auditors to ensure annual monitoring takes place.
     
  • Develop relationships with external contacts such as auditors and banks.

 

Working hours


You’ll be scheduled to work 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday and you should be willing to put in some extra time when there are big projects ongoing or deadlines.

Finance Manager Qualifications


In order to hire the most suitable candidate for a Finance Manager role, they must hold specific qualifications, including:

 

  • A degree in a financial field would be beneficial to secure a Finance Manager role, such as: Accountancy, Finance, Economics, Mathematics.
     
  • Alternatively, degrees in subjects such as Business Studies and Management could also be considered.

  • Most Financial Managers are qualified or partly qualified accountants. It would be beneficial to be qualified in one of the major six chartered accountancy body qualifications:
     
    • Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
    • Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)
    • Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy (CIPFA)
    • Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW)
    • Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland (ICAI)
    • Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland (ICAS)

 

Finance Manager Salary

Typically determined by experience, qualifications and company size, a Finance Manager in the UK currently earns between:

Trainee: £24K - £35k

Once qualified: £35k - £45k

With several years experience £65k - £100k or even more
