Category Manager / Senior Buyer

Reporting Too - Head of Procurement

Salary - up to £40k dependant on experience

Location - Horwich/Bolton

The Procurement Category Manager is responsible for conducting market analysis, fully leveraging negotiations, and managing the business's high worth suppliers to proactively drive value in the strategic sourcing of goods and services, ensuring continuous improvement within the Category and in line with the company strategy


Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead a sourcing strategy for all aspects of the Category including
  • Designing & developing a Category Strategy: identifying needs and providing clear focus on direction, opportunities and challenges to ensure the business remain competitive
  • Working with key stakeholders, promoting best in class procurement, encouraging collaboration, growth and innovation
  • Tenders & benchmarks - negotiating supplier product, service, quality, pricing and payment terms
  • Negotiating retrospective rebates and monitoring target achievement progress
  • Supplier KPI measuring, monitoring sales, volumes and service levels
  • Managing audits to monitor the quality of the company's branded products
  • Proactive engagement in SRM for approved and potential supply partners, including frequent supplier review meetings
  • Sourcing new products and suppliers from both inside and outside the UK
  • Working with Sales & Marketing to plan ranges and benchmark products for the company's catalogues
  • Providing expert procurement advice
  • Following up member complaints
  • Market opportunity & supply chain risk analysis incl. reviewing trends, reporting on currency, commodity information
  • Updating and maintaining supplier records and diaries for the Category
  • Generating quarterly figure reports for turnover and volume
  • Attending and proactively participating in Procurement and General Meetings, which may be off site and could require overnight attendance

Education/Experience/Qualifications:

  • Proven category management skills & experience
  • Excellent procurement, analytical, commercial & business acumen
  • Strong negotiation skillset with a strong background in supplier relationship management
  • Proven track record of results with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to effectively prioritise and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Team player with excellent communication, influencing and persuasion skills
  • Strong presentation skills, both verbal & written
  • CIPS Qualification - desirable but not essential
  • Minimum of 3 years continuous practical experience in a similar Procurement role
