Accounts Assistant

Role: Accounts Assistant (with Study Support)

Based: Manchester (City Centre)

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £21,000-£24,000 (dependant on experience)

Hours: 35 Hours per week: Monday - Friday (9am - 5pm with a 1-hour lunch)

We are currently recruiting for an Accounts Assistant to join one of our clients based in Manchester. This role will require the relevant individual to be all-rounded in terms of maintaining the purchase and sales ledger, completing bank reconciliation and cash posting, as well as carrying out credit control.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a results driven individual to either kickstart or progress their finance career working for a high-performing SME. The business turned over an impressive £20 million in the last 12 months and is looking to continue to grow with ambitious future plans.

An ideal candidate will have at least 1 years' experience in a similar role, be Level 2 or 3 AAT qualified OR have a finance related degree. Additionally, thorough training will be provided on the financial duties to be carried out.

Accounts Payable Duties:

  • Post non purchasing invoices (i.e. rent, rates, telephones, utilities)
  • Post payments from bank accounts (GBP, USD, EUR) and ensure supplier accounts up to date
  • Post staff expenses and credit card statements.
  • Perform month end supplier statement reconciliations
  • Generate and save down month end Aged Creditors reports.
  • Generate suggested payment runs for assessment by Finance Manager
  • Load agreed payments into bank for approval by senior management
  • Perform bank reconciliations to ensure that GL agrees to bank statement every week & month.
  • Close off cash books and Purchase Ledger monthly in association with Finance Manager

Accounts Receivable Duties:

  • Chasing overdue debts via telephone and email.
  • Maintaining the sales ledgers ensuring completeness and accuracy of information.
  • Posting sales ledger receipts and allocating receipts.
  • Prepare and issue customer statements.
  • Liaising with our sales team to resolve disputes.
  • Raising of credit notes as appropriate.
  • Building a strong relationship with both customers and staff.
  • Reporting to the Finance Director on overdue (aging) and doubtful debts.
  • Unpick and reallocate payments efficiently and accurately

Skills Required:

  • 1 year experience in a similar role
  • Finance related degree or Part AAT Qualified (desirable)
  • IT literate including intermediate Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong analytic and numerical skills to deal with large volumes of data.
  • Good levels of accuracy.
  • Able to prioritise workload and demonstrate flexibility.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Confident and independent with an enthusiastic can-do approach.
  • The ability to work efficiently with multiple colleagues.
