Management Accountant - 18 Month Fixed Term Contract

Established and well known South Manchester based business are looking for an experienced Management Accountant to join their busy finance team on an initial 18 month Fixed Term basis covering a period of internal secondment.

The main purpose of this post is to produce all aspects of management accounts in detail, consistently and accurately each period, along with providing financial and business support to operating company management teams.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Detailed production of management accounts, report and other financial information for allocated client company as required by local management team, financial controllers and other senior management of the Group
  • Analyse management accounts to budget/forecast and last year and provide commentaries
  • Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled to supporting documentary evidence with any variances investigated and resolved promptly. All reconciliations and support are referenced and files on the period end file
  • Attendance at management meetings and any other meetings as requested by client company management team
  • Provide business support and assistance to client company management teams in respect of detailed financial information as well as proactive involvement in the annual budget and rolling forecasts processes.
  • Working with the client company commercial team to gain commercial awareness of the client company business and to provide support and input to decision making.
  • Prepare year-end and half-year reporting packs and any relevant analysis to support auditing efforts, and to support financial controller as required with the production of statutory accounts.
  • Prepare year-end tax pack in accordance to Tax Department guidelines and reference to supporting documentation. Submit to Group Tax Department and resolve any queries promptly.
  • Assist with the continuous improvement, and be proactive in identifying opportunities to improve processes and efficiencies at the Shared Service Centre and client company.
  • To undertake any other reasonable tasks requested by the Financial Controller or member of the Shared Service Centre management team and wider UK teams.

Person Requirements - Qualifications, Experience & Competencies

  • Qualified in CIMA, ACCA, ACA level (or qualified by experience) with excellent understanding of fundamental accounting principles and the application of them in practice.
  • Good working knowledge of current accounting software systems and other bespoke systems.
  • Good working knowledge of all accounting functions including purchase ledger, sales ledger, payroll, fixed assets, cash and banking, nominal ledger and stock.
  • Proven track record of producing all aspects of management accounts in details from start to finish.
  • Proven experience of working within a fast-paced business environment and dealing and manipulating high volume data.
  • Calculation of accruals, prepayments and any other adjustments to ensure integrity and accuracy of accounts.
  • Proven experience of identifying opportunities for change to drive process improvement.
  • Proven track records of working closely with different stakeholders of management accounts.
  • Use of accounting systems (E.g. Oracle) to upload, post journals and run various reports.
  • Proven experience of half year and year end process.
  • Experience of liaising with auditors for interim and year end audits.
  • Confident communicator with excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent working IT skills (proficient at Excel advance - Vlookup, pivot tables, formulas)
  • Flexible and adaptable.
  • Quick to grasp new processes, procedures, systems and concepts.
  • Ability to work with different systems and extract relevant data.
  • Ability to handle and manipulate large data volumes.
  • Excellent time management skills, including the ability to organise and structure tasks to ensure deadlines are met on a timely basis.
  • Team player.
  • Ability to prioritise responsibilities under pressure and be self motivating.
  • Personal integrity and confidentiality.
  • Ability to travel to Client Company when required and as requested.
  • The ability to explain complex issues to non-experts to provide clarity and insight.
