Sky Dive - Sept 2009
Despite many warnings and horror stories galore, Phil, Al and Paul were not put off from taking part in their first ever Tandem Sky Dive at the Black Knights Parachute centre based in Cockermouth, near Lancaster. This act of 'braver' was all in aid of Derian House, Chorley. The event raised nearly £900, the money being used to help fund the new wing currently being built to offer care to terminally ill children who may not live to reach adulthood.
"The jump itself was everything we expected and more. It began with some basic training, how to scream loudly, and how not to get a broken ankle on landing!! This ended the training and then the wait began for our names to be called out to board the plane, ascend to 14,000 feet and jump out. The freefall lasted about 45-50 seconds - a long time to be flying towards the ground at 120mph! Fortunately we all landed safely feeling completely exhilarated and wondering what all the fuss was about.
We hope that in years to come this kind of event will become a real feature in our calendar and we can raise more money for good causes whilst doing something a little bit mad. The plan next year is to open this up to clients, candidates and other staff, we just need to come up with something equally as exciting ...
On behalf of Derian House we want to thank all the people who donated their hard earned cash to this worthwhile cause. Your generosity, especially in difficult times, is very much appreciated. If anyone still wishes to donate, you can do so by visiting www.justgiving.co.uk/fourfinancial". Phil Sofield, Director
