Local Businesses Working Together
As Patrons of Bolton Lads & Girls Club we were very pleased to be asked to assist the Directors of the club with the appointment of a new Finance Officer. Our association with the club over the past couple of years has helped us build relationships with many high profile businesses in Bolton and we were looking forward to the challenge of finding a suitable candidate for such a well known and worthy local cause.
The Club opens its doors 7 nights a week, and currently has over 3500 members who pay £5 annual membership and just 40p to a visit to utilise the Club's many facilities. It's a huge job to raise the £2.2 million pounds every year needed to keep the Club open. Much of these funds come from grant and trust applications, but steady income is generated from the local businesses who ensure the Club's 120 year history continues. Many corporate events such as the Bolton Beer Festival and the auction of promises are held annually to support the fundraising effort.
The Club provides many different activities and services to its members, all supported by an army of over 90 staff and 360 volunteers. The Club boasts an award winning mentoring project, 13 football teams, outreach and detached work, a group for young people with disabilities, a group for deaf young people and an ever growing boxing section to name but a few.
' Moving into the fantastic new building on Spa Road seven years ago meant great new facilities, but more challenges in funding those opportunities. Keeping up with the needs of the young people has meant an increase in income and expenditure and it was key to finding the right person for the job when we needed to recruit a new finance officer. Since joining us, Sue Evans has settled in well to her post and is already making an impression on the team, so a big thank you to Four Financial Recruitment for their help ' Jerry Glover Chief Executive BLGC
